With more than 33 years dedicated to advancing Illinois’ transportation infrastructure, Carrie Nelsen now serves as the Region Five Engineer for the Illinois Department of Transportation. A licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.), Carrie has spent her career guiding complex transportation programs and shaping the early engineering phases that bring transportation projects to life. In her new role, she leads project development, construction, and maintenance operations for state controlled highways across Districts 8 and 9. Carrie focuses on setting clear priorities, delivering projects efficiently, and strengthening communication with communities and stakeholders. She is equally committed to cultivating a positive, responsive leadership culture that empowers staff and supports the region’s long term transportation objectives.
